Ha ha!
Anyway, noticed a 2 car LHB in fairview depot on friday evening, I think it was stripped of its pantographs, unfortunately i didnt get the numbers. Can anyone confirm, is it the latest set to be shipped off? Also 2 of the Alsthom sets were coupled together. Kevin |

Re: DARTWatch | ||

8117/05 Entered their evening duties starting on the 17:05 Ex Malahide. Not a nice train to be on leaving Pearse I would imagine - a four car DART right in the middle of peak hour. Also it was giving passengers good exercise at Clontarf and Tara St. when it pulled all the way down the platform!!
I travelled on 8107 and 8331 out and back to Howth as I had a rambler ticket. They seem to be settling in well on the system, their only problem is that buzzer when the doors are closing. The 8200 DART in Fairview today (C 29422 might know) was getting a windscreen replacement. It is believed that the 8200s will be returning to service in the coming weeks as there is a shortage of sets and it doesn't look good for IE having equipment lying idle for months. 227 River Laune |

I presume that 8200 is 8203/8403. I was passing Fairview the other day and out rolls 8403 less a windscreen! You could see where it had been, there were shards of glass all around the edges. It was most likely smashed when it was left outside Fairvew along with sets 02 and 05.

A 6 piece 2800 has been in the bay platform in Dun Laoghaire since this morning.
When is it going to be moved? If its not moved, what happens if Murphy's Law kicks into action and there is another breakdown? The marketing people have always been promoting the advantages of railcars over locos and coaches, should one of the engines breakdown, that the railcar set can still operate. Why did the backup engines not provide the necessary backup on this occasion? I gather from a friend that the 2800 which broke down was the ECS on its way down to Gorey to form 6.45 ex Gorey. This is because buses were being arranged for passengers south of Bray. If this is the case, it would appear that it took a few hours to remove the broken down set from the mainline to the bay platform in Dun Laoghaire. The result was that there was no DART service between Dun Laoghaire and Booterstown for a time up to around 8.00 am and delays after that. From a customer's perspective, this is unacceptable. What happened with services due to terminate in Dun Laoghaire all day? |

Re: DARTWatch | ||

I can understand the down line being blocked but why the up line ? The 2800s must have failed on a crossover perhaps after attempting to return from Dun Laoghaire to Dublin after an initial failure.
It would appear that a second six piece 2800 was dispatched to Dun Laoghaire to shunt the failure into the bay. The up road was cleared about 0740 and the down line at about 0850. Between 0740 and 0900 approx SB trains ran via the up platform. A signalling problem on the up line between Howth Junction and Killester added to the general chaos. This is the second successive day of major disruption to suburban services. |

The 1805 to Maynooth was also cancelled 'due to earlier unit failure'.
EVENING HERALD 31st OCTOBER Thousands of early morning commuters were hit with hour-long delays on their way into work after a faulty commuter train caused the suspension of the Dart service in both directions. Rail chiefs had to stop all services running between Blackrock and Bray from 6am today on both sides of the tracks because a train had broken down at Dun Laoighre station LAST NIGHT. The 6.45am service from Gorey to Dublin was also cancelled as a result of the disruption. Thousands of workers were hit with lenghty delays as they tried to make their way into the city centre while Iarnrod Eireann worked to resolve the issue. Spokesman Barry Kenny said commuters were able to use their tickets on buses. "Dublin Bus is accepting all rail tickets and we hope to solve the situation shortly but obviously we can't specify an exact time" he said earlier today. "We discovered a fault on a commuter train late LAST NIGHT and that's what caused the problem and we would like to apologise to anyone affected". I'm sorry but if it takes this long to clear a failed train well then Irish Rails measures are completly ridiculous. Barry Kenny himself said the incident happened the previous night so why the hell was this not sorted out in time for the rush hour. We've heard all the propaganda about railcars been more reliable than locos. Fair enough there are back up engines but when there is a complete failure it seems to cause chaos. These 2800s need to be sent to Limerick ASAP for some serious punishment! These are becoming just as unreliable and gaining as poor a reputation than the 2700s, along the same route. Ridiculous carry on. |

Re: DARTWatch | ||

This is even more unacceptable to the customers of Irish Rail than I thought. It is ridiculous that it took nearly 12 hours to remove a train from the busiest section of railway track in 2007.
Offering the use of tickets on Dublin Bus is a serious inconvenience to customers. People are dependant on the DART and Commuter Services to get to work. It is quite obvious that there are inadequate backup procedures in place to deal with breakdowns like this. |

Alterations to my above post: All Alstom/Spanish Dart units were not present at Fairview depot this morning at 0920. (That's sets 01, 02, 03, 05). From what I could see they did not appear to be inside the depot either. If anyone sees or hears anything about them today please add a reply. Could they be back in service??? Also, refurb LHB nos. 8115/8315 entered service this morning. The formation is as follows: 8117 + 15 + 05. Set 15 replaced set 20 and is now inside Fairview Depot (south end). GM 160 |
