Surely NIR have a few spare old 80class boards they could stick on the passenger coach end of the Gatwick set

8113 and the 5 car Gatwick set have just passed between Botantic and Central Stations heading for Central Station.
Training run maybe? Did not look to be carrying passengers. |

Perhaps it would have helped if the post had been placed in this thread rather than starting a separate "Training Run" thread. We don't always get a chance to look at all threads before posting a comment - especially if a reply is to a post we have just read.
Certainly if I have read a post and decided to comment I do not check all other threads first - there is bound to be the occasional "confusion" as a result. |

On the 16.1.08 the 18.00 service from Belfast Great Victoria Street Station to Portadown failed on the Lurgan side of the Silverwood Road Bridge the set involved was 3013 and was later towed to Portadown by 3014 arriving into Platform 1 at 23:05 .The failure also blocked the 18:10 Enterprise to Dublin on the Portadown side of the Francis Street Road Bridge Lurgan this train was being operated by 9001 +230 ,this train arrived in Platform 2 in Portadown at 23:08 and departed back empty to Belfast at 23:13 .Also blocked at Lurgan Station was 111 on the Gatwick set training train this train arrived into Portadown Platform 3 at 23:19 and stabled there until working the 07:50 service to Belfast the following morning. In one of the photos at Silverwood you can just make out the 3 trains sitting in the dark behind each other in the space of a mile and half also theres a photo of 111 + Gatwicks sitting in Lurgan Station at 22:45 .What a night
Heres a link to a couple of pics. not the best in the world at all. northernirelandtransportp...topic.net/ |

Gatwicks failed at Lisburn this morning on route to Portadown, looked like the genny van had given up the ghost

Wouldn't it be fierce smart of NIR to lease a genny van off IE for now just until they can fit the GATS with p/pull...
Or even buy one, sure IE shouldn't have any use with it and surely being good mates they should give it to NIR for free! They have no more work for it, and fitting it with gear for central locking would surely solve a short term problem. Sounds good to me but probably wont happen. |

IrishRail201, IE rolling stock works on a different voltage to NIR's. Also the Mk3 vans are sill in everyday use and the MK2 vans are vacuum braked (apart
from being rotten) while the Gatwicks are air braked so apart from giving the IE engineers a good laugh it wouldn't achieve very much.

I was just wondering, what is the maximum permitted speed of the Gatwick set? |

In theory a converted Dutch van could power them but I doubt the generator is powerful enough for air conditioned stock.
I can't see any reason why the Gatwicks couldn't run at 100mph but I think NIR have them restricted to 70mph like the 111s. |

Still a Different voltage Gatwick 1000V DC, IE 415V 3Phase
