Commuter 29422 144 was around the back of Connolly this evening with the wagon. And for anyone interested, a close up of the wagon. Well David, As some say, I'm not much of an enthuasiast, but a great volunteer! So I don't know the dates of Westrail closure? I wonder did the Hunsletts ever haul the Whitehead set? I think that would be the first then. Peter Jones P.S. A39 has also hauled a IE service train whilst in ITG ownership, when it operated the 12:10 Limerick to Ennis service on 23rd March 1999. This was part of the "Back in Black" Railtour, but had to form the service train from Limerick to Ennis due to pathing constraints.

Interestingly there is an another short regular freight working using a bo bo still operating on I.E. Several mornings a week the Limerick works pilot works oil tanks from the DMU Depot to Tobins Road to collect fuel oil and brings it to the Depot oil storage tanks. These are probably the last I.E fuel tank cars in use.

Posts: 61 (01/11/09 15:37:14) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The RPSI carriage transfer, such as that mentioned by Tony above, is one of the few oppurtunities these days to see a 141 hauling something into/out of Connolly. Amongst others, 144, 152 and 177 have worked it earlier this year. That said its not unknown for 071s or 201s to do it either, such as for last years Santa trains- still an Enterprise or Intercity liveried 201 against a laminate is a fairly unusual combo. Starting from the buffer blocks there was: Steam loco 186, 144, 082, 233 and 22003 (all on one siding alone). Next to this line-up was 2813/14 and next to that was the 8x2800 set, with 2801 at one end and 2810 at the other! Commuter 29422

In the past I've heard a rumour that IWT wanted to use these for 9' 6" containers, but the fact they arn't cleared to Ballina was the problem, the rumour was that either a third IWT would run each week entirely of CPWs or a mixed CPW/LX/LP train would run, but this would cause problems in North Wall and Alexandra Road in particular as the CPWs always would have to be next to the engine as they are air braked with through vacuum pipes. Mixed air/vacuum trains have worked in the past with the TPOs and the cable train as far as I know, but I don't think the CPWs ever did, not even on trial? There are still two CPWs in Inchicore and apparently one in Portlaoise, why the PWD have one I'm unsure, but I also heard rumours a few years ago of them being used by the PWD. GM228
