Yeah it was busy alright, I've never seen so many people on a train leaving Westport before.
086 put in a superb run today arriving into the gullet 18:21, waiting for the failed 22s on the 18:25. There was various theories amongst the large crowd of 071 bashers that the reason we were held was because Irish Rail does not like a 30 year old noisy diesel beside its new state of the art units while passeners board, well it was great to be able to get a photo of 086 on platform 6 and powerless 22017 on 7 with lots of frustrated passengers on board.

What rubbish. IE run a railway not a holiday camp for "071 bashers". I am sure what ever stock was working the above service it still would have being held in the gullet. Gloating over a failed multiple unit is childish some people really need to grow up and act their age. Regards Norman |

Yes indeed EMDpower.
I would prefer to see the railway with lots and lots of satisfied customers, getting repeat business from the ones they have, and getting lots more new ones
every year. They will do that by providing the fare paying public with clean, reliable, comfortable, frequent ,safe, and competitive travel. For evidence, look
no further than the Sligo line over the last two years -the highest growth rate on the network. Achieved, in the main, with the despised DMU.
What is fairly certain though is that if we don't invest in our network, rolling stock, facilities etc then the passengers would drift away to other
modes. Every business needs to invest capital and to modernise if it is to survive. If it does not, it will ultimately go out of business. We came close with
Knockcroghery.

What I assume to be 077 was noted standing on the line south of Rathnew (Wicklow-Rathdrum section) on Saturday 26/4/08 at about 12:06, seen from the Rathnew bypass. |
