Wednesday evening saw no less than 3x 071's singing sweetly at Claremorris, 071 on the IWT liner (then swap onto Logs) 073 (off Logs and onto IWT) and 082
on the etys.
Attached a photo of Platforms 1, 2 and 3 at Claremorris with freight. Like CR has said, hopefully the sight of a liner on P/3 in Claremorris will be an everyday sight when the WRC opens from Claremorris - Tuam - Atherny!!
Kind Regards, GM 134. |

Friday 30/10/09:
075 - NW - Ballina IWT 079 - Ballina to Waterford Norfolk 082 - Waterford to Ballina Norfolk* *I was getting a bit worried that the Norfolk may not be coming at 10:00 but then the roar of an 071 could be heard some distance off, and I thought to myself "only one engine could make that sound", and I was right, it was 082!

Forgot to add that I noticed 087 deep within Inchicore today, outside the shed where they do overhauls. Are its days in Orange/Black finished?

^Cheers but I seem to have taken the exact same shot two years ago, on the same Friday!
079 and Norfolk - Kildare, 02/11/07 at 13:07 079 and Norfolk - Kildare, 30/10/09 at 13:14 And here is another bizarre coincidence. The same Friday but last year: 075 and Norfolk - Kildare, 31/10/08 at 12:25 075 and IWT - Kildare, 30/10/09 at 12:21 It's like being in the Twilight Zone or something!

071 worked the 16:25 Ballina-Waterford laden timber train on the 30/10/09-on arrival in Athlone it was realised that due to engineering works around the
Kildare area it would not be possible for the timber to complete its journey to Waterford, and with no siding space available in Athlone to stable a timber it
was decided to run the train to the Cement siding in Tullamore where it stabled and loco 071 detached which then ran L.E back to Athlone and is now parked next
to 073 which has now become the Athlone pilot,
Athlone in recent days has become very useful for swapping locos off DFDS/Timbers, 075 is coupled to the IWT liner which is parked on the fertliser road in Ballina, 082 is coupled to the DFDS liner parked on the gantry road in Ballina. Lovely shot there GM134 of 3 freights in Claremorris-don't forget that out of sight behind the signal cabin was the 18:05 Westport-Heuston ICR which was awaiting clearance in to the station once the laden timber had departed for and looped in Ballyhaunis for the ICR to overtake.....!!!!!

Thanks for that HG, got it passing Caron Bridge. The train didn't sound in the best of health and stopped around the 46MP, presumably the wagons were going
to Limerick for attention very rare to see it head past Portlaoise without re-loading.
