Re: 071 Watch | ||

I was thinking of heading up to Navan tomorrow to try and catch some 071's on the Tara's. Two Questions:
What times do the trains usually depart/arrive Navan at? What 071's are currently on the Tara's? Thanks in advance Skerries121 |

What ALL the 071s were doing on Sunday 26th August 2007:
071 Inchicore - Overhaul 072 Athlone Spare All Day 073 09:35 Heu - Waterford, 13:00 Waterford - Heuston, 18:35 Heu - Waterford 074 Portlaoise All Day 075 12:30 Cork - Heuston. (Return of the 21:00 Cork from Sat.) Overheating leaving Cork arrived 25 late into Heuston. 076 Westport on Timber 077 Waterford on Cement from shunting them on Saturday. 078 Did NOT work the 13:05, instead worked North Wall - Waterford ety Timber instead of 088. 079 Connolly area 080 Ballina on Norfolk Liner for Tuesday 081 Limerick Junction, its now part of the station infrastructure! 082 Drogheda Cement 083 08:55 Sligo - Connolly, 19:05 Connolly - Sligo 084 06:55 Kilarney - Dublin GAA spl. , failed after Newbridge, traction motor problems. 085 07:15 Tralee - Heuston GAA spl. , 16:00 HEUSTON - CORK, 19:30 CORK - HEUSTON (vice Mk4 set which was declared a failure at 16:05) 086 Inchicore Repaint 087 Drogheda - Taras. 088 Connolly Shed. Re: 071 Watch | ||

Its definately a sign of the times if only 6/7 071s were working on sunday!!
I still don't get why a newly overhauled machine such as 081 is sitting in Limerick Junction from one end of the week to the other doing absolutely nothing! The same can be said for 071s in Athlone and Portlaoise! They should be out on freights etc which currently pairs of 141s are working which sadly have seen their best days! Keep the 141s for the emergency!! The drivers I am sure would appreciate it! You can imagine the scene in L.Jnct when the cements arrive from Limerick & Waterford with 45 year old 141s bursting their guts while newly overhauled 081 in 'freight' livery sits gathering bird dung! It's nonsense! |

Re: 071 Watch | ||

081 sitting at Limerick Junction, maybe nonsense, maybe not, but when things go wrong, when a newbe MK4fails, or cement or whatever decides to sit down, newly overhauled 081 springs into action, goes to the rescue, thunderbird ready to go, but for now, 081 is a sleeping monster, ready for action.

Only a waste! If it was out and about saving the world everyday then maybe i'd agree.

Re: 071 Watch | ||

Connaught Ranger, I do have to disagree with you on this one. With the level of intensity of service on Dublin-Cork it makes sense to have rescue locomotives in the event of something failing, as the opportunity cost of loss of goodwill from customers if the schedule goes pear-shaped as a result of having to wait for a locomotive to arrive from Dublin would be massive!
It is common practice in all forms of public transport to have backup equipment/staff in place to provide cover in the event of a failure. |
