As far as I know ICE, the 2045 service to Belfast on Saturday was deferred until around the time you mentioned (dep. Connolly at 22??) in order to bring the
Tyrone GAA supporters back home following the Dublin vs Tyrone match in Croke Park on Saturday night.

Spotted it today on the 11h00 to Belfast. Couldn't get the loco number but 9003 was at the tail.
Also........... LORRIES on the 13h20. DVT 9001 developed a problem so the poor passengers were lorried northwards in 29X14. The whole kit 'n' caboodle including loco 209 was in Connolly Maintenance Shed this evening. DSE |

Am I wrong in thinking there would be a spare 22k hanging around at this time ?

Whatever was amiss was obviously sorted out in time to allow the set to return to its normal working - 209 and dds worked the 19.00 tonight, arriving in
Belfast 7early! I was on the 10.30 this morning (same set) from Belfast as far as Drogheda, and there didn't seem a lot wrong. However, when I got into
Connolly later on the set was in the valeting shed as already reported.

Sunday, 08/03/2009:
The 1300 Connolly - Belfast service was worked by 4x29000 set no.29007 this afternoon. I assume it also worked the return 1600 ex Belfast? Also, the 1000 Connolly - Belfast service was running approx. 30 mins late this morning - only passing through Raheny at 1035. (8208 was on it). Commuter 29422

There's a standard class Enterprise carraige on its own in the sidings behind the valeting plant in Connolly, as of 1600 this afternoon. Didn't see it there this morning. Couldn't get a clear enough view to establish the number, there was a 29000 in the way. Platform4Connolly. |

Yeah I saw that there aswell Platform 4, at about 1620. It was standard no.9206. I assume it developed some sort of fault and was subsequently removed from a
set. I wonder if it will go over to Inchicore??? That'll be an interesting move!

Why can't they use a spare Mk 3 set on Enterprise replacement. There should be a few of them about somewhere still. To subject the misfortunate punters to
a 29000 would be enough to put them off for life - especially those that have paid for 1st class and at seat dining!

Because as in so many things Irish Rail do, convenience and lack of effort all too often trumps customer service.

I wonder sometimes if some of the posters realise what is involved in presenting carriages for service.
Ok there are Mk111s at various locaions, Dundalk or Waterford for example. However they cannot be cannot be pressed into service instantly without exams and servicing. Yes there are MK111s in Dundalk, and perhaps some might suggest that they could replace DDs, but they are not serviceable unless examined and passed. The MK111s are gone, bar the few still operational. IE has it's maintenance plan in place and one imagines it would not include withdrawn stock, why would it? So if the DDs fail what options do you have? The RPSI now have the withdrawn Cravens, and mountains of work is being undertaken, to have them presented and passed for service. Once withdrawn, stock is not safe to use unless it is serviced, repaired, and passed to run. MK111s are withdrawn, so would it not be a waste of money to continue maintaining them? p.s. I think that a refund is available for services not provided

Why havnt the 22000 Intercity Railcars been cleared to Belfast yet .

The blunt answer to Mk3s on the Belfast line is that Dick Fearn has stated that he is prepared to put them on the Belfast run if the NI Government, through
Translink, pay 50% of the cost. The DRD are not prepared to pay!

I hear what you say TonyRPSI. The fact is that the Enterprise DD sets are frequently failed for one reason or another. It is the duty of the two operators to
provide an equivalent set of coaches for the use of 'The Customers' (who are always right) a 29000 suburban railcar set or a C3K set do not come
anywhere near that description. It therefore follows that if a recently withdrawn set of coaches can be inspected, serviced and put back into service then let
it be done. Equally, the Gatwick set which is in service or, for that matter The RPSI set which is licenced to run, could be used . Perhaps the RPSI would be
glad of the revenue and the Customers would be delighted with the dining car.
