Here are some shots of 126 in charge of an IRRS 'Sea Breeze' tour to Youghal in 1985 (or was it 86?).

MGH2 wrote: Mark it was Saturday 6th July 1985, the Youghal line was opened in 1859 to Midleton and 1860 to Youghal, the line was 126years old so locomotive 126 was
used for this great occasion, 126 was turned on Youghal turntable, it was a very enjoyable day, many thanks for posting the photos.
May I remind ye this the Midleton line thread, tis not a thread about individuals, nor about off topic on railways in other parts of the country, I appeal to posters to stay on topic, this thread has been most interesting on the progress of the rebuilding of the Midleton line, I repeat this is the MIDLETON LINE!! thread. Great photos, in particular that one with 26xx on Cobh line and rail train on the Midleton branch. What is the progress on the signalling?

Who would have said in early 2007 when doubles were finishing off on the Cork cement that there would be doubles down there again during the 4th Quarter of
2008 and the 1st Quarter of 2009, I would have said they were barking mad, but the proof is in the photos.
Many thanks to IrishRail 201, Malcolm Stead, Flange Lubricator and not forgetting you're good self H.Gricer for posting, these photos have been really valuable contribution to this board and I have really enjoyed looking at. In many years to come some will say "Locos never been on this line since 1986" well, proof in the photos, photos never lie, Kind Regards, GM 134. |

Tamper 741 entered Midleton station yesterday 9th March. This was the first rail movement into Midleton in almost 20 years.

Some fantastic photographs gentlemen. A family event on the date in question stopped me for travelling behind 126
Well done to all for posting the pictures.

Excellent photos in particular the shot at Harpers Island a truely era defining shot that sums up the amazing turnaround in the fortunes of Irish Railways. As
you said GM 134 people will question whether Locos ever ventured to Midleton, a picture is indeed worth a thousand words.

What line is the original mainline at Cobh Junction, Cobh or Youghal??
|
|||
MGH2 |

The Youghal line was the mainline originally. After the Cork & Youghal Railway was subsumed by the GSWR in 1866 the Youghal was downgraded to a branch and
the Cobh line was considered the mainline.

The relaying is covered in April's Earthmover magazine in a feature about the on-track plant being used. No pictures of engineering trains though.

Platform10 wrote:I absolutely agree, great pictures Finbarr and keeping us up to date, anyway just another update from our other East Cork correspondent Mr Malcolm Stead, who went out into the spring weather yesterday to have a look, removed his fur coat and replaced it with a pair of shorts, the rail trains have now done their work, the tamper has move in to finish it off, which btw seems to have the Midleton line to its self these days, with the locomotives now gone, so has the elusive Mr Flange Lubricator who seems to have vanished into thin air, still no douth, with a smell of diesel, Mr Lubricator will appear again in a puff of blue smoke. Midleton signal cabin has been tastefully restored.
