1750 was worked by a PP set this evening, hauled by 217. Set was 6105 6304 6318 6312 6314 6319. Was this a one off, or have the diagrams changed again?
As an aside, I had forgotten just how well the drivung cars ride with the extra weight over a standard mark 3 - it's the smoothest ride out of Heuston I've had (Mk3, Mk 4 or 22K) for some time! Sean |

I've often noticed that MD the control cars do ride exceptionally well. I recall my father being very impressed on a trip to Waterford on 6105 some years
ago he performed the tea test, basically the tea didn't spill despite being quite full!! The same test on a MK4 and the cup didn't even survive let
alone the tea!

Railcargricer1 wrote: My experiences of the PP driving trailers were a little mixed. Yes they were comfortable, but when being pulled (rather than pushed!) at 50 mph in a fully laden state with standing pax, they had a habit of yawing from side to side. Other than that, they were perfect !! Recession......what recession? Pass me my cigars and brandy there like a nice chap! |

The Push/Pull set formed of 6105 6304 6318 6312 6314 6319 worked the 1750 Heuston - Galway & 2145 Galway - Athlone instead of the 1710 Heuston - Athlone tonight. "Here's to the next generation." |

26/03/09:
6314 and 6319 have both been removed from the Push / Pull set following a graffiti attack on them, most likely overnight in Athlone. 6402 has made a welcome return to traffic after being spare since the middle of January along with 6303, which had also been spare since its return from Cork in early January. The set is now formed as such: 6105 6304 6318 6312 6303 6402 and worked the 1710 Heuston - Athlone with 234. On Friday 27/03/09 it worked the 1750 Heuston - Galway instead of the 1710. 6101 is now laid up in Heuston. These are the first trains that I remember as brand new and Ive outlived them after a (relatively) short working life of 21
years. Anyone remember them when they were new on a RTE science programme called Zero?
Rumors are like pigeon racing, you set them off and see how long they take to come back to you.....

Its replacement being the first standard class 6 car set 22041, which is scheduled to enter traffic next week. "Out of the chair." |

From what i've heard its been withdrawn tomorrow (Monday), and that the 17:10 Athlone / 09:15 ex Galway goes over to 22000 on Tuesday. I am unsure whether
that means the last working out is tomorrow and back Tuesday then withdrawn. 16:15 FO Ballina and 17:50 Galway go over to units at the start of July.
Don't take above as concrete, as usual with IE we'll just have to wait and see. Dublin Bus VLs 1997-2009, R.I.P. |

Drimnagh Road wrote: There is no 9:30 ex Galway or a 17:10 service today as it's a Public Holiday. To facilitate the Galway Yacht Race, there are two late specials from Galway to Athlone; 21:45 and 23:15 so if the last 6100 run will be anywhere, it could be on this special link. It will be sad to see them go not from the point of view of losing a loco hauled service but from the fact that they were very much an invention of Irish Rail management and ingenuity and something that was built and funded mainly in house by the skilled men in Inchicore. Indeed they were probably the last massive assembly project from the Carriage Builders in the Works. To their credit, they also single handedly extended the live of some of the 121 class, the push pull idea being developed to complement the single cab design of the "Yanks". While never as well remembered as Cravens or their older Mark 3 brothers, they certainly should take a proud place in terms of successful rolling stock.
