All freight trains nowadays are driver only-the DFDS has a shunter to accompany the driver from Waterford to Bellview and back in order to uncouple the locomotive there and also to perform a brake continuity test before departure,
A chemical train-e.g the ammonia and asahi had always to have a guard on board.
