That is precisely what Iarnrod Eireann want. If they provided a viable connection for passengers to actually use, people might use it. However this goes against the managements belief because if people use the service, they can't close the line down.

An example of three disgraceful connections that are missed by a few minutes, which would provide better options for the paying customers:

17:05 arrival into Waterford from Limerick Junction misses the 16:50 to Dublin by just 15 mins. Connections from Clonmel/Carrick on Suir to Kilkenny / Carlow / Kildare / Dublin lost.

17:33 arrival into Waterford (15:10 ex Dublin Heuston) misses the 17:05 to Rosslare by just 28 mins. The crew are taxied home from Rosslare so delaying it by 40 mins would cost no extra and give the people of South Wexford a decent rail connection from Dublin.

17:41 Athenry to Ennis/Limerick departs just 6 minutes before the 17:47 arrival from Dublin (15:30 ex Dublin Heuston) thus making passengers wait (if they are bothered) over 50 mins at Athenry for their connection to Craughwell/Ardrahan/Gort. This is similar to a Tralee train leaving Mallow 6 mins before the train from Dublin arrive, it just wouldn't happen. It does here because IE do not want to see these branch lines succeed.

Anyway back to the original topic, well done to IE for plugging the big gap around luchtime, But they need to speed up journey times to even be at the races with the new M9.
