The danger being of course that direct services are then reduced - eg why should Limerick services call at Kildare and Portarlington if people can change off a local at Portlaoise?? Given the "Dublin centric" approach to timetabling, I can see a lot of journeys becoming more difficult (look at Newbridge - Portlaoise (or indeed anywhere virtually west of Kildare), the two largest intermediate settlements between Dublin and Cork, or anywhere north of Thurles to anywhere from Limerick Junction southwards as just two current examples).
