Also today, the RPA (Railway Procurement Agency) dug some test pits in O'Connell Street, Dublin, to see what is below the street. Hopefully this will not be the only work on the Metro North project for the next few years. Posts: 816 (09/06/09 20:50:16) Full Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	A bumper collection kicks off the week with an early morning trip to the Curragh to see the Tullamore - North Wall cement. Alas no cement ran due to operational issues but plenty of 22000 DMU's forming early morning passenger and empty stock workings. A surprise return to the scene this week is the Weedspray train making its 2nd appearance for 2009. On Monday it went Portlaoise - Inchicore and returned to Portlaoise on Tuesday. I managed to photograph it at Ratheven, outside Portlaoise. Late afternoon and early evening included a trip to Tullamore to see 224 stabled with the cement train, plus 234 on the 1710 Heuston - Afternoon at Portarlington. Finally an hour at Carn was spent in glorious evening sunlight to see 215 on the 1900 Heuston - Cork with a MKIII rake and the usual diet of MKIV's and 22000 DMU's . Highlights of the sixth trip to Kildare include: the two standby Mark 3 sets in use on the Cork line, a scheduled Mark 3 set on the Galway run, 082 & 6101 in the yard, 073 and 083 on engineer's trains. Pictures at http://thewanderersirishrailphotos.fotopic.net/c1710197_25.html include DMU's 22000's, 2600's, 2800's, 29000's and EMU's 8100's, 8520's. Also seen was the usual procession of MKIV's on the Cork line and 216 plus MKIII's which operated a special 0825 Cork to Heuston to relieve heavy loadings on the 0715 Tralee - Heuston service. This movement was done in 3 stages: Athenry - Athlone, Athlone - Kildare and Kildare - Inchicore. It departed Kildare behind the 0935 Laois Traincare - Heuston empty. Photos of the unusual movement at Kildare, The Curragh, Sallins and the Iron Bridge outside Sallins. In the afternoon it was down to Thurles and 22007+22017 worked a 1805 Thurles - Limerick GAA special after the Limerick - Waterford Munster Hurling Semi-Final match at Thurles. After the trip to Sallins this morning I stumbled across an interesting event in Monastervin Village. The Draw Bridge which carries the R424 road over the Grand Canal was being raised to allow a narrow boat from Athy to pass through. Highlights include: Monday: 232 1530 Cork - Heuston with MKIII's 216 1710 Heuston - Athlone with MKIII's. Tuesday has 22037 at Cloncoher between Geashill and Tullamore. Wednesday: 080 on the 0720 North Wall - Tullamore cement with 9 bogie bulks. 229 1530 Cork - Heuston, 8 MK III. 234 worked a 1230 Inchicore - Mallow and 1545 Mallow - Inchicore MKIII / MK IV trial train to compare ride comfort levels between the two fleets as part of the ongoing effort to improve the ride comfort of the MKIV fleet. Probably the one and only time this will ever happen! Plus the usual diet of MKIV's and 22000's at various locations on the Cork line. Here are some updates to Eiretrains this month firstly with some DSE locations Bray Station - completely redone this gallery, with comprehensive new photos, both past & present. Bray Head - various DART and Rosslare line trains, complete with photos of each section where possible. Naylor's Cove - a few trains at this former halt. Killiney Station - again DART/Rosslare services, with a few archive photos. Sandycove Station - as above. Dalkey Station - similar trains, station photos and interest in the surrounding area. Dalkey Atmospheric - the remains of this interesting railway can still be seen. Dalkey Quarry - featuring the early 19th century tram route. Dalkey Depot - photos from Dalkey's tram depot, which remains mainly intact complete with track. A also re photographed some locations on the former Tullow line, and now all stations are featured on this branch, firstly with Sallins Station - again redone with some more photos of the former junction. Nass Station - showing what remains of this once extensive station. Harristown Viaduct - the five arched viaduct over the Liffey and trackbed in the area. Colbinstown Station - some well preserved station buildings at this location. Grangecon Station - a few photos of the station building which still exists at this location also. Misc locations updated include Athlone Station - with 232 and 218 on pushpull and Mk3 trains respectively. Athlone Midland - some archive photos complement some present photos. Sixmilebridge Station - a couple of photos of this soon to be reopened WRC station. North Wall - finally 077 on Tara and a few past/present shots in the surrounding yards. Unusually the train was only 7 vehicles long, instead of the standard 8 car length. The Citygold (1st class) coach not being available for this trial. 2: The Showtime Express is back! Unit 22013 worked the 1040 Heuston - Killarney "Showtime Express". The first Showtime train for about 15 years. It is reported by sources in Killarney that 85 people travelled from Dublin to Killarney for the weekend break. 3: 234 1615 Heuston - Ballina, 7 MK3 at Meelaghans Level Crossing.
