071s forever |

It is very seldom that all 6 engines work on the 2800 class buses on one journey

Yes of course, and we all know 071s are never down on power or have traction motors cut out. I clearly must have been imagining things on the 13:10 Tralee
on 5th August 2006 when 072 limped pathetically into Cork on 4 motors after a nice delay at Thurles while the driver attended to it...

No I am a Loco Man,always forever.
Railcars are just numb,boring out,pity,but thats the way it is. There is only 20 28's,so what is the attraction of putting up daily numbers of their movemens,when in reality,nobody is really interested. It's the same oul thing. Yes Sir. |

2810,they didnt build more because it have been a waste of clingfilm.20 was enough

Yes 20 was enough to keep 071s off the DSE. Now the 22K are doing the same same elsewhere. All we need now is some freight multiple units!!

I'm not denying the 071s are usually a very reliable loco. I just don't think they deserve the cult status they seem to be enjoying of late. The
fact of the matter is they fail just like everything else, and look how looooooooooong they spend trying to build up the brake on MkIIIs...

"I'd be interested to see how 071s and MkIIIs would cope with the current Rosslare diagrams on a daily basis".
So would I! It would be a great improvement on what in reality are Commuter Railcars. My turn to run for cover! |

One reason they are reliable is because they go from Rosslare-Drogheda every single day of the week and thats it...they dont slip down to Cork on cements or
from Sligo/Westport-Waterford on timbers every week...If you think about it,an 071 building brakes on mk3s would lose no time compared to 26s/27s/28s/29s.These
Units are max 75mph and anything faster would be dangerous because of swift rocking side-to-side.The 071 and mk3 can in a fit way do 90mph quick enough to
redeem lost time on the brakes
|
|||
Commuter 29422 |
|||
|
That wouldn't make any differernce on the Rosslare line; its max speed is 60mph for the most part; therefore 071s would loose time because they cant blow
off Mk.3 brakes!
