Surely locomotives are barred from that line beyond Ballymena or Coleraine because of track ciondition?
Would be great if it were true though - have always felt the Gatwicks would have been ideal for that route; an opportunity lost. |

The use of loco hauled coaches north of Ballymena is totally forbidden. The work being undertaken currently between Ballymena and Coleraine should open things
up as far as there by 2009/10. However, as far as the Coleraine - Derry section goes, I can't see NIR allowing loco hauled until it is relayed - this is
currently planned for starting in 2011. So, unless the coaches are going to lie at North Wall for the next 3 or 4 years, I cant see this being a goer.

Tis a shame to see 6401 vandelised but as you say it was only a matter of time.

I could only see the roofs of them as the laden timber wagons were blocking the view of them

I see in the latest Rail Magazine that Cargo D are interested in I.E MK3s, however their non standard bogies and electrics ane causing concern. I wonder how
viable it will be for the substantial cost of conversion for the notoriously unstable charter/spot hire market over there?

Was sniffing around NW at the weekend and no sign of the International set. Where are they currently stored (Bangledish?), they seem to have been moved from
their previous location in the dardinell sidings.
